A character Victorian seafront villa with stunning timeless views over Ventnor Bay. Richmond House was used as an hotel until 2003 when the previous owners converted the upper floors to apartments, further adding a successful cosy little public bar to the existing restaurant.
 
In 2007 the freehold of Richmond House was sold to a national property company.  Their intention was to refurbish the premises and install an experienced team to revamp the business to suit the demands of today’s customers.
 
The Ale & Oyster has been lovingly created by our ‘family’ style team having been given a free reign with the interior design and the re-styling of the business.
 
 
As proud owners of The Ale & Oyster, we have been operating since May 2008.
 
 
Our valued staff  are an important and integral part of our extended business ‘family’ all living and working in the Ventnor area.
 
Our passion is fresh seafood and high quality locally sourced/produced meats, fish and vegetables. Our mission is to present an innovative menu which reflects the seasons and provides a rich and, to date, a highly successful mix of many traditional dishes complemented by our two chefs’ own creations.
 
The Ale & Oyster provides a comfortable bar and restaurant with all dishes prepared on the premises by our chefs/partners.
